Isaiah and Romans In One Year (2024)

I don’t want to reinvent the wheel given the wonderful resources that are out there. At the same time, this is a bit of a unique idea and there is nothing specific that is ready to go. So I’ve taken two, 12 week courses from the Gospel coalition website that provide a framework and some supporting context and commentary. What I’m going to do is to take 24 weeks over each book, rather than 12, thereby taking the majority of a 52 week year and leaving a bit of margin for a deeper dive and to be able to catch up where necessary. The idea is to really take my time through these majestic and seminal books of the Bible, creating space to read, re-read, study, understand context and so forth … all in order that God would speak and shape my life! Don’t rush it. Spending two weeks in June ‘just’ in Romans 8 will be truly glorious if you read, re-read, scribble, pray, sing and study it!

Isaiah study and passages

Romans study and passages

I’ve left August as a fallow month so use as you see fit. You could do a Psalm a day perhaps. December could be used to really land all that we’ve learned, re-read tricky parts, journal the things God has said … and what we’ve done and will do about it!

You are free to adapt the passages and content to a rhythm that works for you. What I’ll do is:

  • WK 1: read through, daily, the Isaiah texts, dividing the overall section up into 5-7 short passages. Example in February. You might want to read the study intro stuff so you have the context and overall theme in mind but focus on the text itself.

  • WK 2: read through the study section on Isaiah, taking time to drop back into the passages with some of the insights in mid from the study/commentary.

  • WK 3: read through, daily, the Romans texts, dividing the overall section up into 5-7 short passages. Example in February. You might want to read the study intro stuff so you have the context and overall theme in mind but focus on the text itself.

  • WK 4: read through the study section on Romans , taking time to drop back into the passages with some of the insights in mid from the study/commentary.
