A Prayer on Remembrance Sunday

Father, today, Remembrance Sunday, we remember the sacrifice of those who served in the World Wars (and since then, the many other wars). This year is the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 , we are grateful Father for how they served their country.

Some came home to live on, some did not. We think of those still living today around the country , many still affected by memories or injuries. Help them as they remember those who didn't come home. Father please help those for whom this day and Tuesday 11th - the actual Armistice Day, will bring back memories of seeing a telegram arrive some resulting in tears of joy and thanksgiving for good news, and some meant tears of grief and sadness at bad news. Help them with their memories at this time.

Father, sadly there have been so many wars since, the same cycle repeated. Help those today grieving lost family members and those struggling with injuries due to serving their country in the Falklands War, the war in Iraq and so many more. In this present time , wars continue in Ukraine and the Middle East and many other places we don't hear about as much.

Father can there be peace? Where it seems humanly impossible, can there be peace?

I can't finish this prayer Father without thanking you for your Word. In it, you give us glimpses of a very different time that WILL come. You say war will be no more, no more crying, no more pain. You have given us that hope, and thank you that it is not a forlorn hope . It is not wishful thinking, but solid and secure because your plans will be fulfilled life.

Father as you meant it to be. You are a Mighty God. Thank you Father for your love and power that means your ongoing plan is unshakeable. All praise and thanks to you. In Jesus' name. Amen
